State police are advising that the right lane of Interstate 70 eastbound at the West Virginia-Pennsylvania line near West Alexander will be closed during daylight hours today.
The closure is occurring to allow crews to complete the removal of a hazardous materials load that was dumped when a tractor-trailer went over a steep hillside there Wednesday. Police say some of the barrels of hazardous materials may have broken open. Those materials and what remains of the trailer will be cleared.
The daylight restrictions will be needed for three to five days to complete the cleanup, the state Department of Transportation announced in a press release.
Police have identified the driver of the tractor-trailer as John Kincaid, 54, of Blanchester, Ohio. Police said Kincaid was driving east when his rig hauling two trailers went off the highway and hit a guardrail. The second trailer went over the embankment, pulling with it the tractor and first trailer.
Kincaid was flown to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital for treatment.
