PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Activists in Philadelphia plan to march for an array of social justice causes to mark the holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

The demonstration set for Monday afternoon is called the MLK Day of Action, Resistance and Empowerment, or MLK DARE.

Participants will be calling for a higher minimum wage, an end to police “stop and frisk” tactics and a locally controlled school system. The troubled Philadelphia district is overseen by the state.

The march is scheduled to move through the heart of downtown and end with a rally in front of Independence Hall.

Earlier Monday, thousands of volunteers began working on about 1,800 community improvement projects across the region during the 20th annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service.
