WAYNESBURG – Students at Margaret Bell Miller Middle School in Waynesburg missed most of the school day Monday after being evacuated that morning for a bomb threat.

Students were evacuated about 11 a.m. to a safe location in another building. The evacuation was orderly and conducted in accordance with the school’s emergency plan, said Brian Uplinger, superintendent for Central Greene School District.

Uplinger said the threat came in the form of a message written in pencil on a restroom wall that indicated a bomb would go off in the school Monday afternoon.

The building was searched by Waynesburg Borough police, who also arranged to bring in several bomb-sniffing dogs to assist in the search, said Waynesburg Police Lt. Dale Phillips. Nothing was found.

Parents were informed about the incident through the district’s one-call telephone system, Uplinger said.

Students were returned to the building about 2 p.m. Because the students missed their lunches, they were fed before being dismissed at the normal time, he said.

Uplinger said he planned to talk to the students today about the seriousness of the incident.

Waynesburg police continue to investigate the threat, Phillips said.
