A woman driving along Turkeyfoot Road in Peters Township early Friday morning helped rescue a man from his burning home.

The motorist noticed a fire at the front of 380 Turkeyfoot Road about 4:45 a.m. and called 911 before knocking on a rear door and shouting to alert the sleeping resident inside, Peters Township Assistant Fire Chief Bill Gaughan said.

Gaughan did not have identities for either person, but said no one was injured in the fire. Washington County property records identify the homeowner as Joseph Pasquarelli.

Gaughan said firefighters were able to control the fire quickly, but not before it damaged the front section of the single-story house.

A front room was destroyed and smoke caused heavy damage to the rest of the structure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Peters Township firefighters were assisted at the scene by crews from North Strabane Township, Washington and Houston.
