A fire at 115 Green St. in Claysville killed three dogs Wednesday night. Homeowners Micah and Lindsey McKinney were not home at the time of the fire. The cause has not been determined.

A Claysville couple lost their home and three dogs in a fire Wednesday evening.

Micah and Lindsey McKinney lost everything in the fire that gutted their home at 115 Green St., according to a family member. They were not home when the fire started about 6:30 p.m.

Loren McAnany, Lindsey McKinney’s sister, said a fire marshal has not yet determined what started the fire.

She said they believe the fire was caused by an old furnace system in the kitchen. Claysville Volunteer Fire Department officers could not be reached for comment.

The family started a fundraising campaign on www.giveforward.com, which already has raised more than $5,000. To donate, type “Micah & Lindsey McKinney” into the search bar.

“If anyone knew of my sister, they would all agree that she is the sweetest person and has a heart of gold,” McAnany said of her sister, a hair stylist. “She is well-known in the town of Claysville from the local beauty salon. She and Micah appreciate the thoughts, prayers (and) donations more than anything.”
