PHILADELPHIA (AP) – The National LGBT 50th Anniversary Celebration is under way in Philadelphia.

The man behind the landmark Supreme Court gay marriage ruling, Jim Obergefell, will lay a wreath at the Gay Pioneers marker across from Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell Center on Friday.

Some 40 activists picketed for gay rights in front of Independence Hall on July Fourth in 1965.

The anniversary celebration will run through Sunday.
