Three to vie for Miss Jacktown Fair Queen
Three contestants will vie for the title of the 2015 Miss Jacktown Fair Queen this weekend.
The Miss Jacktown Fair Queen Pageant and the Miss Jacktown Fair Princess Pageant will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Commercial Hall at the Jacktown Fairgrounds.
This year, the Jacktown Fair will be celebrating its 150th anniversary. The fair will officially kick off Tuesday evening, July 14, with the annual Jacktown Fair Parade, and will run through July 18.
The three contestants for 2015 Miss Jacktown Fair Queen are Marissa Rhodes, Haley Pierson and Randalyn Mae Filby.
Each contestant was asked to write an essay of 300 words or less on “What The Jacktown Fair Means to My Community,” must participate in a five minute interview with the judges, model an evening gown and give a short introduction and 3 to 5 minute speech on “Why you Should Come to The Jacktown Fair.”
The new queen will be crowned by the 2014 Fair Queen Tabitha Schiller Tuesday evening at the upper grandstand following the Jacktown Fair Parade. The new queen will receive a $1,000 scholarship in honor of Joe Behm and each queen contestant will receive $100 after completing the pageant.
Rhodes, 16, is the daughter of Jeff and Shelia Rhodes of New Freeport. She is a member of the West Greene basketball team, softball team and cheerleading squad. Rhodes is also a member of the Girl Scouts.
Pierson, 16, is the daughter of Julie and Chris Whipkey of Graysville. Pierson participates in the Greene County 4H horse, steer and pig clubs. She enjoys working on the family farm, hunting and fishing. Pierson also works at Burns Delight and babysits.
Filby, 17, is the daughter of Heather Householder and Brian Filby of Holbrook. She is a member of the volleyball team, basketball team, softball, cheerleading squad and color guard at West Greene High School. Filby has been a prom court attendant for three years and is a two-year member of 4H. She is a three-year member of the National Technical Honor Society and a skills USA member at Greene County Career and Technology Center.
The 2015 Miss Jacktown Fair Princess Pageant has six contestants. Each contestant was asked to submit a poster advertising an event at the fair, an illustrated drawing, model a sundress with a short introduction and participate in a three minute interview.
The new princess will be crowned Sunday evening by the 2014 Jacktown Fair Princess Jordan Karvan at the end pageant. The contestants for princess are:
• Kaileigh Coneybeer, 10, the daughter of Nicole Coneybeer and Nathaniel Nakonechni of Holbrook.
• Kasie Meek, 9, the daughter of John and Tonya Meek of Holbrook.
• Mackenzie Wise, 10, the daughter of Lynn and Ginger Wise of New Freeport.
• Elizabeth Bell, 9, the daughter of Penny and Fred Bell of Graysville.
• Veronica Lasko, 9, the daughter of Mike Lasko and Tracy Stewart of Rogersville.
• Marissa Tharp, 8, the daughter of Natasha and Cory Tharp of Wind Ridge.
