PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh is throwing a bash designed to help businesses in one neighborhood that will be cut off once a bridge is demolished this fall.

The 93-year-old Greenfield Bridge is slated for demolition after it closes Oct. 18. The bridge connects Greenfield with two other thriving neighborhoods, Oakland and Squirrel Hill.

Because the bridge spans Interstate 376, it will be much more difficult for residents to move among those neighborhoods, and city officials and business owners are concerned Greenfield will bear the brunt.

The “Greenfield Bridge Rock Away the Blues Party,” which will be held on the eve of the bridge’s closing, will feature a concert by Pittsburgh’s Joe Grushecky and The Houserockers, and a raffle to determine who gets to push the demolition plunger.

The bridge should be replaced by May 2017.
