SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A woman who was the oldest Irish-born person in the world has died at 113 at a central New York nursing home.

Kathleen Rollins Snavely’s funeral was held Tuesday at a Catholic church in Syracuse. Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel funeral home says she died July 6.

The Los Angeles-based Gerontology Research Group says Snavely was the oldest person ever born in what is now the Republic of Ireland. She was the 16th oldest person in the world at the time of her death.

Snavely was born Feb. 16, 1902, in County Clare, Ireland. She was 19 when she arrived in the U.S. and settled in Syracuse, where she married Roxie Rollins in 1924.

Rollins died in 1968. She later married Jesse Snavely Jr., who died in 1988.

Kathleen Snavely is survived by a stepson and numerous nieces and nephews.
