A Beaver County man was charged by Hanover Township police with homicide by vehicle in connection with a crash last October that killed a Bethel Park woman who was riding her motorcycle on Route 18.

William J. Lee, 33, of Georgetown, is also charged with reckless driving, failure to obey traffic control devices and failure to stop at a stop sign in the Oct. 5, 2014, crash that killed 50-year-old Kimberly Darges. The charges were sent by summons this week from the office of District Judge Gary Havelka.

Hanover police received a report that night just after 8 p.m. that a motorcycle and vehicle collided at the intersection of Route 18 and McCutcheon Road. Darges was reportedly on the ground and two people were performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on her, according to court documents filed by the arresting officer at Havelka’s office. Darges was taken to Weirton (W.Va.) Medical Center for treatment. Police were still on the scene investigating the crash when they received word Darges died of her injuries at the hospital.

Lee reportedly told police he tried to stop at the stop sign but was unable to do so, court documents indicated. The Georgetown man also was taken to the medical center for blood testing.

Lee’s hearing in Central Court was continued until July 29 at the request of his defense attorney, Phil DiLucente. Hanover Township police did not return calls about the crash.
