A Canonsburg man was arrested Saturday morning after he allegedly entered two homes without permission and then punched a police sergeant who had been looking for him.

Police were called about 8:30 a.m. to a home in the 900 block of Short Street for a report of a burglary in progress. The intruder, later identified by police as Robert Lee Glass, 27, of 313 Valley View Terrace, was seen by a resident in the backyard of his mother-in-law’s home, looking under a vehicle. When the resident, who lives across the alley from his mother-in-law, asked him what he was doing, Glass allegedly ran toward him. The man, who was standing in the doorway of his home, said Glass went past him into his house. He grabbed Glass and pushed him out the door, police said.

While looking for the suspect, police got a report of a home invasion in the 900 block of First Street. The elderly resident was very upset and told police a man entered her home.

Sgt. Don Cross and Officer Thomas O’Rourke entered the residence to check for the intruder. After clearing the first floor, the two officers went to the second floor. As Cross started to enter the middle bedroom, Glass allegedly came out and punched him in the mouth. Cross used his Taser on Glass. Police said Glass fell on a daybed in the room, then fought with O’Rourke and Cross as they tried to place him in handcuffs. Cross had to use his Taser in the stun mode to subdue Glass. As the officers were trying to put a second handcuff on Glass, he allegedly bit Officer Scott Bashioum on the ankle.

Police had received a report Friday night that Glass had entered a home in the 400 block of Woodland Road asking for help. He reportedly told the resident someone was chasing him. Police said Glass appeared disoriented and sweaty and was in possession of a steak knife. Glass was taken to Canonsburg Hospital for treatment.

In July 2008, Glass was arrested by Chartiers police after a resident found him sleeping on her couch. He pleaded guilty to criminal mischief after a burglary charge was dismissed. He was placed in the Intermediate Probation Program.

Glass was arraigned before District Judge Mark Wilson on two counts of criminal trespass and one count each of simple assault and resisting arrest. He was placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for July 30 before District Judge David Mark.
