PITTSBURGH (AP) – Officials at Point Park University in Pittsburgh have dropped their legal challenge over whether faculty members can unionize under the National Labor Relations Act.
After 11 years of litigation through the National Labor Relations Board and the U.S. Court of Appeals, a release from the university on Monday says the administration did not wish to spend additional resources on a lengthy legal battle.
University faculty voted in favor of joining the Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh/Communications Workers of America in June 2004, but the school refused to bargain with the new union.
Michael Fuoco, president of the Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh, says he is pleased with the outcome even though it took more than a decade.
The release states that the university will “begin collective bargaining accordingly.”
