WAYNESBURG – Cory Grandel, a financial advisers with Waddell & Reed in Greene County who also serves as the county treasurer, recently received a national award highlighting his work as one of his firm’s top financial professionals.

Grandel received the firm’s prestigious 2015 Crest Award and also has been named to Waddell & Reed’s Advisor Medalist Program, recognizing the company’s top 250 financial advisers.

Grandel said this honor and award is more than just his and called it a team effort that made it possible.

“Honestly, the only way I attained that award was through the consolidated effort of everyone who works with me,” Grandel said. “We have been striving for it.”

The Greene County native who resides in Jefferson said they worked hard to reach the numbers needed to win this award. Grandel has been a financial services professional for 20 years and has worked in the Greene County area for his entire career. Grandel counsels clients in Southwestern Pennsylvania on their financial goals and helps them pursue financial success.

The recognition awards are presented annually and are based on an analysis of investment, insurance and financial planning sales generated by the adviser. The Crest Awards were presented this year to less than 190 of Waddell & Reed’s financial advisers, out of its national network of nearly 1,800.

The awards were announced during a New Orleans business trip and Grandel also had the opportunity to travel to Venice, Italy, to be honored by the company.

He has won the Circle of Champions award 15 times during his career, which is similar to the Crest Award, yet with lower numbers needed to achieve its status.

“The numbers are more difficult to achieve for the Crest Award,” Grandel said.

This is now his second time winning the Crest Award.

Grandel believes he was honored with these awards because of the attitude he has toward each client.

“I do a large amount of activity for my client base,” Grandel said, “and I try to put their needs first.”
