Cecil Park receives safety, playground improvements
No more kicking around or falling into small rubber pieces that served as safety flooring for kids clambering around Cecil Park’s playground. Cecil Township manager Don Gennuso said public works crews and outside vendor Play & Park Structures finished installing a new, rubberized safety surface and new playground equipment last week.
“It’s a solid, one-piece surface … and crews installed a new piece of play equipment with a new slide and climbing structures,” Gennuso said of the roughly $66,000 project. He said the work came after Supervisor Cindy Fisher highlighted safety issues in the parks.
“It’s my goal to renovate or repair at least one park a year,” Fisher said, explaining Cecil Park’s playground was first on the list due to “obvious safety concerns.”
“The rubber chip mulch that was there before, it made a huge mess and it’s tough to maintain as a safe, even surface,” she said. “We also repaired (an existing) slide and replaced all of the swings. The only thing yet to be installed are some new benches.”
Fisher said Hendersonville and Southview parks are due for repairs in 2016.
