Two 19-year-old Monessen men were arrested early Friday morning after a brick of heroin was found in a child’s bedroom inside a Donora home.

Anthony Montel Hairston, 19, of 673 McMahon Ave., and Trey Zachary Holmes, 19, of 1115 Miller St., were arrested by Donora police on multiple drug charges and one charge of recklessly endangerment. They were arraigned by District Judge Robert Redlinger, who set their jail bond at $50,000 each.

Police responded to a noise complaint at 152 Highland Terrace just after 2 a.m. When they arrived, they saw several men drinking beer outside, and one was urinating on the side of the building.

Police spoke to all individuals and notified the parents of those who were under 21. They were interviewing the last person when they heard voices and movement coming from upstairs. While walking up the steps, they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the bathroom and bedroom.

Inside a bedroom, they saw Hairston, Holmes and a woman, who was not charged. Hairston was taken into custody for underage drinking, and police said he started using profanity and became verbally abusive toward officers.

They allegedly found $1,540 in his possession. He reportedly told police he did not have a job and refused to say where the money came from.

Holmes was also detained for allegedly having an odor of alcohol on his breath, and police found $661 in his possession. He reportedly told police he has been unemployed for a while.

Police then looked inside the upstairs bedroom and saw in plain view a brick of heroin, containing 50 stamp bags, inside a small laundry basket with children’s clothes. They later determined the bedroom belongs to the resident’s daughter, who is 18 months old.

A charge of reckless endangerment was issued because the heroin’s location posed “a hazard of bodily injury or death to the toddler had the toddler have found it,” according to the criminal complaint.
