Police identify victim of West End shooting
Washington police have identified the victim of Thursday night’s shooting in the West End as Malik El-Hajj Turner, 22, of Houston.
Detective Dan Rush said Turner was shot in his right hand outside 630 Fayette St. and has since been released from Washington Hospital.
Turner and the person who fired the shot, who is not being named because charges will not be filed, told police the shooting was an accident. Turner did not want to press charges, police said.
Police were called to the two-story home to take a report from Lachelle Jones, who heard one gunshot. Police followed a blood trail from sidewalk steps to a side porch doorway, which was outside a first-floor bedroom.
While interviewing witnesses, Ronald McMillian approached police and said his friend was shot and was taken to the hospital.
Officers found one shell casing in the grass near the side porch.
