Man charged with indecent assault
WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg man listed as a Megan’s Law sexual offender was charged Wednesday by Waynesburg Borough police with allegedly assaulting a girl Monday at his Elm Street apartment.
Wayne Calvin Shriver, 22, of 32 W. Elm St. was charged with indecent assault, false imprisonment, unlawful contact with a minor, harassment and corruption of a minor.
The charges were filed with District Judge Lou Dayich of Waynesburg. Shriver had not yet been arraigned Wednesday afternoon.
According to the criminal complaint, the girl and her two aunts came to the police station Tuesday night to report the assault.
The girl told police she stopped at Shriver’s apartment about 1 p.m. that day to use a charger to charge her cellphone. She said she was standing in the living room when Shriver tried to kiss her. When she told him no, he forced her onto the couch,
Shriver held her by the throat with one hand and had started to reach down her pants when he heard his girlfriend coming out of the bathroom, she said.
He freed her before his girlfriend could see what was happening.
The girl left the apartment. On Wednesday, she reported, Shriver text messaged her to ask if she was OK.
Shriver is listed as a Tier I sexual offender on the state’s Megan’s Law website for an offense in May 2011 in West Virginia. He was convicted in West Virginia in April 2012 of third-degree sexual assault involving a minor, according to the site.
Details of the offense could not be obtained Wednesday. A Tier 1 offense would require Shriver to register with local police for 15 years.
Shriver also had a previous run-in with the law in Greene County.
In January 2011, he was sentenced by Greene County Court to 3 to 23 ½ months in jail after pleading guilty to reckless endangerment.
The charge stemmed from an incident July 5, 2010, when Shriver sprayed lighter fluid on the shorts of a juvenile at the Waynesburg playground and then attempted to set him on fire.
