A fire that started in the bedroom early Thursday damaged a one-story house at 110 Pine Ave., Chartiers Township.

Fire Chief Vince Altieri said that the state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire of the home owned by the Powell family of Hickory. A man renting the house was able to escape the fire.

Altieri said the fire was contained to the bedroom. There was smoke damage to the rest of the house with water damage to the basement. Firefighters were able to quickly get the fire under control but stayed on the scene for several hours checking for hot spots.

Houston firefighters and Canonsburg Ambulance assisted at the scene.
