A Charleroi firefighter was injured while battling a house fire on Lookout Avenue.

The fire broke out just before 7:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Lookout.

Firefighters from Fallowfield Township, Lock 4, Monessen 1, Stockdale and Bentleyville assisted Charleroi firefighters. Charleroi Region police and Mon Valley EMS also responded.

Tom Santoro, first assistant fire chief for Charleroi, said the firefighter broke his leg when he tripped over a water hose.

He was flown by emergency helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.

Santoro declined to release the firefighter’s name.

Santoro said the first floor of the house was heavily damaged, and the second floor was moderately damaged.

No one was home when the fire began.

A state fire marshal was investigating the cause of the fire.
