A passenger aboard a Greyhound bus en route to Washington, D.C., was arrested by state police Friday afternoon after reporting the bus had been hijacked and was traveling in the wrong direction on Interstate 79.

Alesia Fermon, 50, of Los Angeles, Calif., called Allegheny County 911 dispatch at 4:53 p.m. to report the hijacking of the bus, which had left from Pittsburgh.

She got disconnected, and 911 attempts to contact her failed, according to police.

Police driving near the Allegheny-Washington county line observed a Greyhound bus matching the description stopped along the shoulder of the roadway, and troopers located the woman who had reported the hijacking.

Police determined the bus was not hijacked and did not travel in the wrong direction.

Police said Fermon is being charged with risking catastrophe, false alarms to agencies of public service, recklessly endangering and disorderly conduct.
