• Action: The board approved several aspects of funding for programs for the homeless. The county is receiving $190,435 for the Shelter Plus Care program, which provides permanent supportive housing for the homeless people who also have disabilities. The contractor for this service is Residential Recovery Services, which be will receiving $184,330 through April 30, 2016. The remaining $6,105 is being used for the county’s costs related to administering the program. Try-Again Homes will also be receiving $25,572 for its Can-Do transitional program for homeless persons in the 18- to 24-year-old bracket.
The board also approved $23,400 – an increase of $1,200 – to the Washington County Transportation Authority to pay the salary of a van driver to transport disabled veterans to VA health clinics and hospitals in Pittsburgh.
The commissioners concurred with Purchasing Director Randy Vankirk in rejecting bids for a new furnace for the Canonsburg Senior Citizens’ Center. The borough will determine if the building lends itself to continued use.
At the request of Coroner Tim Warco, the commissioners agreed to amend the fee schedule for post-mortem laboratory services with NMS Labs of Willow Grove, Montgomery County, to allow for the inclusion of basic to expanded upgrade for forensic blood analysis at the rate of $133.
As expected, the commissioners approved an agreement with Washington-Greene County Job Training Agency for 2,833 square feet of office space at 351 West Beau St. to be used for informal reviews and appeals of property reassessments from Jan. 1 to Oct. 31, 2016, at a monthly cost of $1,744.
Raffaele Casale, assistant chief assessor of the Tax Revenue Department and Christopher Jursa, the new manager of geographic information systems, will attend the Esri maps user conference, “United We Map,” in July in San Diego, Calif. The estimated cost of $4,800 will be paid from the recorder of deed’s records improvement fund and the general fund.
