Toprani appointed to Ringgold board
NEW EAGLE – Former Washington County district attorney Steven Toprani returned to politics Wednesday by accepting an appointment to Ringgold School Board.
Toprani, who did not seek re-election four years ago, was appointed to the board in a 7-1 vote to replace Christopher Carroll, who resigned last week without giving a reason. Director Maureen Ott cast the dissenting vote, saying she didn’t know Toprani.
Toprani, of Monongahela, served one term as district attorney and then accepted a job a Pittsburgh law firm.
Board Vice President William Stein said directors don’t need to know each other prior to serving on the board, that Toprani’s “body of work in public service and in his career speaks for itself.”
“It is outstanding,” Stein said.
Toprani will serve on the board through December, Stein said. He said the Republican and Democratic committees will appoint a candidate for the seat on the November ballot.
Toprani, 36, a Republican, said he will seek the GOP nomination for the fall.
