Sexual assault charges: Arthur Leroy Bird Jr., 24, of 198 Caldwell Ave., Canton, was arraigned Friday before District Judge David Mark on charges of statutory sexual assault and corruption of minors filed by state police. He is accused of having consensual sex with a 15-year-old girl at her Canton home and a Morris Township campground earlier this year. He was released with orders to have no contact with the alleged victim. A preliminary hearing is set for June 24 before Mark.
Driver injured: Mary Chipps, 49, of Colliers, W.Va., was injured Tuesday afternoon when a vehicle driven by Roger Amon, 37, of Washington, pulled from a gas station parking lot into the path of her southbound vehicle in the 800 block of Henderson Avenue, Canton, state police said. She was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment. He will be cited with making an improper turn.
Paraphernalia charges: Jessee Wayne Inman, 28, of 625 N. Main St., Washington, and Michael B. Vulcano, 24, of 113 Deerlick State Road, Nineveh, will be charged with possession of paraphernalia after North Franklin police received a complaint Monday of people doing drugs in the parking lot of Washington Crown Center. When police arrived, they said they found Inman slouched over in his vehicle with his eyes closed and a needle and syringe on his lap. They say he also had a dozen empty stamp bags and a spoon. Police said Vulcano had 10 empty stamp bags and a needle. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
Rooms entered: North Strabane police investigated reports of two rooms being entered at the Hyatt Place, 210 Racetrack Road, Wednesday. Jeffrey Lattinvill of Selbyville, Del., told police after 6 p.m. that the safe in his room was pried open and a Dell laptop computer, seven bottles of medication, a checkbook and passport were stolen. A guest checking into a room just after 8 p.m. discovered the television was removed from a wall and placed in the bathroom, covered with a blanket.
DUI crash: Alyssa McCracken. 25, of Hillcrest Street, Washington, will be charged by South Strabane police with driving under the influence of alcohol after she crashed her vehicle into a utility pole on Colonial Heights Boulevard at Concord Drive about 1:30 a.m. Friday. Police said the pole cracked and the transformer blew out, knocking out power in the area. McCracken was not injured, police said.
Burglary reported: Sarah Cherpack, 37, of 339 Locust Ave., Washington, reported Friday that two men entered her home around 2 a.m. through a kitchen window and demanded money, Washington police said. Cherpack screamed and the men fled. Police attempted to locate the suspects, but were unsuccessful.
