A Mt. Morris man was in critical condition in a Pittsburgh hospital Saturday evening following a crash Wednesday on Interstate 79.

Daniel P. Johnson, 23, was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC-Mercy hospital following the accident around 3 p.m. His condition was reported by a UPMC spokeswoman.

That was one of three crashes with injuries that occurred within 90 minutes on the interstates near Washington.

Johnson’s accident occurred shortly after Holly Price, 51, of New Waterford, Ohio, was injured when her motorcycle hit a rig operated by Sean Schmull, 42, of Hilliards, Butler County, on I-79 near the Laboratory exit in Amwell Township.

A few minutes later, Johnson’s car hit and slid under a camper being hauled by a pickup truck, then caught fire.

The truck driver, identified as James Alister, 41, of Meadville, stopped in the right lane so he and his wife, Dr. Lisa Raiber-Alister, could help Price.

The couple was not hurt nor were their two young sons, who were in their vehicle.

Price was flown to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh, where her condition was not known. Police said she will be cited with following too closely.

About 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Danny J. Taylor, 46, of Benwood, W.Va., was injured when his motorcycle struck a tractor-trailer driven by Johnny Hall, 53, of Selma, Ala., on I-70 west in Donegal Township. That happened just east of the West Alexander exit.

The spokeswoman did not know Taylor’s condition Saturday evening.
