WAYNESBURG – Apple American Group LLC continues to move forward with plans to construct an Applebee’s Restaurant in Franklin Township.

“We’re still moving forward with the project,” Steve Krekus, director of construction for the company, said Thursday. “We’re just finalizing all the appropriate approvals.”

Krekus said the company continues to work through the process and does not know at this time when construction might begin. The company had been hoping to start work mid-May or June, he said earlier.

The Franklin Township supervisors approved plans for the restaurant in March with a number of conditions. The restaurant will be built in front of the Greene Plaza on Route 21, next to the Taco Bell restaurant.

The entrance to the restaurant from Route 21 will be by Miller Lane and the traffic lane will go through Greene Plaza. The restaurant will have 25 to 30 parking spaces on-site, said Steve Coss, township code enforcement officers.

Additional parking needed to meet requirements of the township zoning ordinance are to be provided by current spaces available at the Greene Plaza.

Coss said Thursday that he has been working with the company on the project and the only major issue it still must address with the township involves the parking off-site arrangements.

The restaurant will be a full-sized Applebee’s, containing 5,400 square feet of space, and will have a liquor license, Krekus said earlier.
