HARRISBURG – A Pennsylvania government commission is accepting grant applicants for money paid by Penn State over its handling of the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal.

The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency announced Wednesday it was seeking recipients for the money paid into the state treasury under a 2-year-old state law.

The agency is asking children’s advocacy centers, victim service entities and health workers who aid child victims of sexual abuse to apply in this round of grants.

State law requires the commission spend up to $24 million in the first five years, after which grants will be limited to interest and earnings on the remaining funds.

A January settlement that ended a lawsuit by two state officials against Penn State and the NCAA directed $48 million to the commission.
