Three programs to aid the homeless in Washington County have seen increased funding during the past year, according to allocations made by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development that the county commissioners adopted Thursday.
Connect Inc. is receiving $103,915, up from $85,077 for providing emergency shelter, while Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania is receiving $26,872, up from $15,372, for bridge housing, and $26,980 for emergency shelter, up from $18,480.
The county can retain part of the HUD money to administer the programs through its Department of Human Services.
HUD will provide $1,005,385 for housing and supportive services to homeless families and individuals through Dec. 31, 2016.
Recipients include $212,133 for Domestic Violence Service’s Fresh Start program; $193,891 for Connect Inc.’s Safe Haven program; and $87,756 for Connect Inc.’s supportive living program.
The commissioners are expected to allocate the balance of $511,605 later this summer.
