Motorists and pedestrians in several parts of Washington County should be seeing bridge work in the future.
Lisa Cessna, director of Washington County Planning Commission, requested the county seek bids for the purchase of a prefabricated bridge, to be paid for under the state transportation funding law passed in 2013, to replace Scott Bridge on Galati Road in Cecil Township, spanning Miller’s Run. The act allocated about $2 million for county and forestry bridges across the state.
She also asked the county commissioners to advertise through the PennDOT Engineering and Construction Management System for the design of what’s known as “Catholic Church Bridge” over Pigeon Creek in Bentleyville.
This project is being done instead of Rodgers Bridge over Buffalo Creek.
The state will pay for 80 percent of the design costs, while the county’s liquid fuels allocation will cover the remainder.
The county also will be seeking bids for the reconstruction of Kings Creek No. 2 bridge in Hanover Township and the Dunbar Bridge over Raccoon Creek, Smith Township, with costs to be paid through the Act 13 impact fee on Marcellus Shale natural gas wells.
The county commissioners also approved a reimbursement agreement with PennDOT for inspections done in accordance with national standards. Federal taxpayers will cover 80 percent of the $1.1 million total, while county funds will pick up $231,736 of the tab.
