DONORA – A Donora man spent his wedding night in police custody following his arrest on charges that he assaulted his new bride in their home early Sunday.

Borough police said they needed to deploy a Taser on David J. Wachinski, 31, to subdue him before he was arrested on charges of simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness, court records show.

Police arrived at Wachinski’s 527 Third St. home about 1 a.m. and found another man, William Thieret, holding him down on the kitchen floor, the affidavit supporting the charges indicates.

Wachinski’s wife, Katie Thompson, said they had gotten married earlier in the day Saturday and began to argue as soon as they returned home. She accused her husband of striking her in the face and kicking her in her ribs before Thieret stepped in to break up the fight, police stated in the affidavit.

Thieret said Wachinski then threw him into a wall, putting a hole in it and dislodging a flat-screen television.

Thompson also told police she may have lost consciousness because of the assault. The report did not indicate what prompted the newlyweds to argue, but it indicated the two had been drinking alcohol at their wedding.

District Judge Mark Wilson sent Wachinski to Washington County jail on $5,000 bond Sunday afternoon. Wachinski was released from jail later in the day after he posted bond.
