The Leadline competition will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 in the Greene County Fairgrounds livestock arena.
The competition features young ladies and young men wearing an outfit of at least 60 percent wool and leading a sheep. Classes are tiny tots (ages 3-7); intermediate (ages 8-13); and seniors (ages 14-19).
A costume class for all ages is a new feature. In this class, costumes can depict a character from literature, history or sports, a fashion from a period in history or a community theme. These are only suggestions; one is only limited by creativity. Costumes must be made of at least 60 percent wool.
Coordinator reserves the option to place contestants into this class as appropriate.
Ladies will lead a ewe lamb or yearling ewe, and young men will lead a ram lamb or yearling ram. The sheep should be representative of its breed, fitted for the show ring and lead well with the halter without handling in the ring.
Decorations on sheep are permitted.
A one-page typed commentary introducing the contestant, their activities, ownership of the sheep and a description of their outfit is expected by 6 p.m. Aug. 9.
Coordinator is Janet Mawhinney. Email questions or commentaries to jbmmmd@windstream.net.
