Homeless man charged with Citizens Library break-in
A homeless man is under arrest after police said he broke into Citizens Library in Washington early Tuesday, damaged windows and doors, went through desks in several offices and struggled with officers.
Frank J. Bruno, 48, is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, possessing instruments of crime, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.
Washington police responded to a motion sensor alarm at the library, located at 55 S. College St., about 12:50 a.m. and found several doors and windows broken. Officers could see a man running across the lobby. They cornered him between stacks of books, and he struggled as they tried to take him into custody. Wire cutters were found in his pocket.
Library director Diane Ambrose said two windows were broken and desks and drawers were ransacked. The damage did not interfere with the library’s operation Tuesday.
Bruno started coming into the library to use its computers about two weeks ago but was recently asked to leave because of inappropriate computer use and his privileges were revoked, said circulation manager Kathy Pienkowski.
Police from three neighboring departments were called to assist at the scene. Bruno was arraigned before District Judge Mark Wilson. He was placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
