Girders erected for Montour Trail bridge

A crane lifts two girders into place for a bridge linking the Arrowhead Trail to the Montour Trail along Valley Brook Road in Peters Township Wednesday morning.

The $1.6-million dollar project is expected to be completed by early October and Valley Brook Road will reopen next week.

Construction is under way for a new Montour Trail bridge in Peters Township. Valley Brook Road will remain closed this week as workers install continue to install girders for the $1.6 million bridge, which will connect Montour Trail with Arrowhead Trail.


Work is expected to be completed in September. The Route 19 and Valley Brook intersection is not be affected by the closure. Motorists going toward or away from Lawrence will not be able to proceed on Valley Brook. Detour signs are be posted.

The new bridge project is being funded by several sources including grants from the state, as well as Washington County, and private donations, Imgrund said.

Another bridge will be constructed in Cecil Township, where it will span Route 50 and Route 980.
