PITTSBURGH – A rifle-wielding man killed in a shootout with city and transit police on a busy Pittsburgh highway died of multiple gunshot wounds, but the medical examiner’s office won’t say how many.
The police shooting of 20-year-old Tyrone Dale Harris Jr., of Pittsburgh, is being reviewed by the Allegheny County district attorney. That’s routine in fatal police shootings.
Pittsburgh police say Harris fired shots in various parts of the city over a 30-minute stretch Monday morning, before he was stuck in traffic in a stolen car on Route 51 and opened fire on pursuing police.
Four city officers and one from the Port Authority of Allegheny County police returned fire, killing Harris.
It’s not clear how many shots police fired, or who fired the rounds that killed him.
