PITTSBURGH (AP) — A western Pennsylvania man has been convicted of third-degree murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend.

Jurors in Allegheny County deliberated for about three hours Friday before convicting 26-year-old Herbert Hart in the October 2014 death of 35-year-old Robert Wilson.

Prosecutors said Wilson went to the home Hart shared with Wilson’s former girlfriend and demanded to see his daughter, and Hart shot him after an argument on the porch.

Defense attorney Blaine Jones argued that the shooting was self-defense. Hart testified that Wilson threatened to shoot him and motioned toward his waistband as if he had a gun.

Jones said he’s glad his client avoided a first-degree conviction carrying a life term, and the defendant’s relatives are “ecstatic because one day their son will come home to them.”
