BANGOR (AP) – Police have recovered 137 pieces of bronze that were stolen from graves at three cemeteries in Monroe County.

The receptacles hold flowers.

Prospect Cemetery in East Stroudsburg, St. John’s in Bangor and Fairview Cemetery in Plainfield Township, where actress Jayne Mansfield is buried, have been targeted.

Police arrested two men after they say they tried selling 75 urns, weighing more than 300 pounds, to a salvage company. The company had alerted authorities after the pair sold 62 pieces in May.

Officer Shannon Young of the Slate Belt Regional police department tells Lehigh Valley Live the pair have yet to be charged.

Young says police recovered a bronze plate flag-holder taken from a World War II veteran’s grave.
