West Virginia man dies in Mount Morris coal mine accident

A West Virginia man died early Sunday morning after a mine accident.

According to a report from the Greene County Coroner’s office, John W. Kelly, 55, of Albright, W.Va., was injured at Dana Coal Company, 4 West Mine, Mt. Morris, while working. Preliminary information indicates the injuries occurred with some type of air shaft or mine door coming down on Kelly. The investigation continues and the cause and manner of death are pending final autopsy results.

The coroner was called to investigate the death at Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg, at 1:43 a.m.

There was no answer at Dana Coal offices.
