MONONGAHELA – City police took a Monongahela man into custody early Sunday after finding a woman bleeding while clutching a severe stab wound to her neck and losing consciousness in his apartment.

Monongahela police said the victim was found sitting on the kitchen floor, saying, “Help me. Help me. Please don’t let me die,” after the suspect, Milton Sanders, directed officers to the apartment about 5:30 a.m.

Sanders, 31, of 145 Chess St., denied any involvement in the crime, telling police the victim, Molly Carter, 21, must have suffered the injuries that night on Pittsburgh’s South Side and been dropped off in that condition in Monongahela. He also told police the two were at a bar that night and began to argue as they drove home when she jumped out of the car and ran off toward Monongahela, court records show.

Sanders also told police he continued to Monongahela after stopping at an adult video and bookstore in Elizabeth and found Carter in the apartment with the injuries, the affidavit indicates.

Police said there wasn’t a trail of blood leading to Sanders’ apartment, and blood was found only inside the residence. Sanders also had a cut on his hand, deep scratches on his face and blood on his clothing, they said.

There was evidence a bedroom door was forced open, and a television was smashed, leading officers to believe there had been a struggle in the apartment, the record states.

Carter had a towel wrapping her stomach, where she also was stabbed with a knife or sharp object, police said. She was taken to Mon Valley Hospital for treatment of deep lacerations, police said. Her condition was not immediately known Monday.

Sanders was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment. He was sent to Washington County jail on $100,000 bond set by District Judge Larry Hopkins.
