CALIFORNIA – A California University of Pennsylvania student was identified Monday as the victim of an assault early Sunday that led to eight people being charged with underage drinking and other crimes.

Kyle MacLachlan of Bloomsburg was treated at Mon Valley Hospital after he was struck in the head and knocked unconscious about 2:30 a.m. in the 500 block of Second Street, court records show. He also suffered injuries to his nose and teeth.

MacLachlan identified the man who assaulted him as Jeremy J. Burton before he was taken to the hospital, California Borough police stated in the criminal complaint and affidavit.

Police said a group of men waved them over that morning to say their friend was assaulted by others who ran to a home on Second Street. Police followed the group to a parking lot on the California University of Pennsylvania campus, detaining Aaron D. Williams, 19, of South Park, after he tripped and fell, the record indicated.

Police accused Williams of later threatening to urinate on an officer at the police station, the record shows.

Burton, 19, also of South Park, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct, underage drinking and public drunkenness. He was sent to Washington County jail on $25,000 bond set by District Judge Larry Hopkins.

Williams was charged with resisting arrest, terroristic threats, disorderly conduct, underage drinking and public drunkenness. Hopkins also sent him to jail on $25,000 bond.

Two other men face charges of disorderly conduct and public drunkenness, while four others, including one 17-year-old juvenile, were charged with disorderly conduct and underage drinking. Those charges will proceed by summons.

None of the suspects charged in the case was a Cal U. student, university spokeswoman Christine Kindl said. The victim is a student at the university.
