WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg couple was found guilty Tuesday by a Greene County Court jury of stealing scrap metal in April from Levine’s Iron and Metal Inc. in West Waynesburg.
Jesse James Tinsley, 30, and Rachel Lynn Eddy, 23, both of 115 Jefferson Road, were each convicted of tampering with evidence, conspiracy and theft.
The one-day trial was before Judge Farley Toothman. The two will be sentenced following preparation of a presentence report.
State police were called at 11 p.m. April 6 to a report of a red pickup truck with its headlights off leaving Levine’s at a high rate of speed. On the way to the scene, police said they saw a red pickup parked at 115 Jefferson Road. They later returned to the vehicle and found scrap metal in the bed, including metal grates, I-beams and pipe.
Tinsley was interviewed and told police he received the scrap metal from a friend. Police said they asked him not to move the items until they returned with a camera.
When they returned, police said, some of the scrap metal was removed. One metal grate was found in the basement of the house.
Police said they interviewed Tinsley’s friend and he told them he had given Tinsley scrap pipe but no grates or I-beams. At Levine’s, police said, they found a scrap pile with items similar to those found in Tinsley’s truck. In addition, tire marks at Levine’s matched those from Tinsley’s truck, police said.
Police said Eddy sold the scrap for $203, even though the couple was asked not to do anything with it until it was determined whether it was stolen.
