Work on the Parkway West (Interstate 376) improvement project will resume next week, weather permitting.
The $72.83 million project includes milling and resurfacing the highway between Interstate 79 and the Fort Pitt Tunnel.
Full closures will occur in alternating directions this weekend between I-79 and the Parkway Center interchanges. Traffic will be detoured as crews begin preparatory work including line eradication, barrier removal and painting operations.
The inbound lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday through 4 p.m. Saturday. The outbound lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. Saturday through 4 p.m. Sunday. Detours will be posted.
When the preparatory work is done Sunday, motorists will be shifted into a new configuration on the parkway. Outbound traffic will be shifted into the eastbound (inbound) lanes. Inbound traffic will use the shoulder and far right lane near the Carnegie interchange. Lanes will be narrowed to 10 ½ feet.
Beginning Monday, there will be full nightly closures in one direction and overnight single-lane restrictions in the opposite direction. There will be about 30 full closures on the inbound side and about 40 on the outbound side this year.
