Chevron Appalachia reported the company finished remediating a Robinson Township well site where a condensate spill occurred in December 2011.

The energy company stated in a public notice it will submit a final report to the state Department of Environmental Protection to determine if the well site at 724 Washington Road has been fully remediated.

A crack in an underground natural gas pipeline led to a leak of about 80 barrels of condensate at the Chevron Robin Hill 15H-18H well site, according to DEP records. DEP spokesman John Poister said condensate is essentially wet gas, which contains ethane, butane and propane.

Poister said five nearby residential wells were tested, and none was impacted. However, a groundwater monitoring well on site showed signs of contamination.

Chevron completed the soil remediation last May and had more than 6,500 cubic yards of soil excavated from the site.

The company continued to work on remediating the groundwater and announced this week that the company believes the groundwater now complies with state regulations.

Poister said the department initially handled the incident as an oil and gas investigation, but it ended up being considered an environmental cleanup and brownfield investigation.

“This was a large project and has taken time to complete,” Poister said.

DEP will review Chevron’s report and make a final determination. A Chevron spokesman did not return a call seeking comment.
