CRUCIBLE – Fire destroyed a two-story, wood-frame house in Crucible Friday.

Crucible Volunteer Fire Company was called to 228 Third Avenue about 5 p.m., fire Chief Jeff Blackburn said.

“The second floor was fully engulfed when we showed on scene,” Blackburn said.

No one was home at the time of the blaze.

The residents, whose names were not available, were in the process of moving and few of their possessions were inside the house, Blackburn said.

The occupants’ three dogs were removed from the building just after firefighters arrived on scene and were unharmed, Blackburn said.

Blackburn said he didn’t believe the fire was suspicious. The state police fire marshal, however, was called to investigate.

Firefighters encountered no major problems despite temperatures in the low 20s.

The Crucible fire company was on scene for about five hours. It was assisted by the Rices Landing, Carmichaels-Cumberland Township, Nemacolin and Jefferson volunteer fire companies.
