UNIONTOWN (AP) – A Western Pennsylvania woman convicted of third-degree murder in a beating death almost a decade and a half ago is seeking a new trial, alleging that a witness lied and forensic science used to link her to the victim has been debunked.
Crystal Dawn Weimer, 37, of Connellsville is serving a 15- to 30-year sentence following her conviction in Fayette County in the January 2001 death of 21-year-old Curtis Haith.
Authorities alleged Weimer arranged for three men to beat Haith to death in front of his apartment with a baseball bat and a crowbar.
Weimer has repeatedly proclaimed her innocence. The Uniontown Herald-Standard reported the appeal alleges a key witness provided false testimony and the science used to identify a bite mark is now disputed.
