A Chartiers Township man was arraigned Wednesday on charges stemming from the alleged rape of a woman at his home almost two years ago.

Daniel Michael Certa, 64, of 451 Liekar Lane, turned himself in for arraignment at the offices of District Judge David Mark.

The 24-year-old woman, who was 22 at the time of the incident, said she and Certa went to his home May 3, 2013. Detective Sgt. Michael Filosi said the two, who were acquaintances but not in a relationship, finished moving furniture.

Certa reportedly asked the woman if she wanted a shot of liquor. The woman told police she consumed two shots of liquor.

After drinking, she told police she passed out and could not remember anything. Police allege Certa raped her while she was unconscious.

Evidence was collected for DNA testing during the police investigation. Filosi was notified by the crime lab that DNA evidence was found in her shorts that matched with Certa. Filosi said the woman reported the assault when it occurred but police had to wait for the DNA results before filing charges.

Certa is charged with rape of an unconscious person, rape of someone who is unable to give consent, aggravated indecent assault of an unconscious person and of a person who is impaired, sexual assault and three counts of indecent assault

He was released on $100,000 unsecured bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday in Central Court.
