Washington man jailed for alleged aggravated assault
A Washington man was arrested Tuesday by city police after he allegedly hit two women with a metal pipe during a confrontation in his apartment.
Ronald Slater, 22, of 431 N. Main St., is accused of hitting Dai Jae Smith and Alyissa Atkins, at his apartment about 5 p.m.
Police were called to Smith’s Washington home. She told police she went to visit Atkins and was at her residence when Slater reportedly hit her in the back, stomach, leg and arm with the pipe. He then allegedly hit Smith in the face with the pipe and pushed her into a concrete wall.
Smith told police she is pregnant and at high risk of complications. She told police she experienced stomach cramps after the alleged assault. Police took her to Washington Hospital for treatment.
Police were unable to locate Atkins and speak with her or check on her injuries.
