CALIFORNIA (AP) – A western Pennsylvania university fraternity says the borough was wrong to cite the organization’s president for a party that authorities called “disorderly.”

The Beta Iota chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma at California University of Pennsylvania said it has suspended gatherings and social events at its house near campus pending a policy and safety review.

But the fraternity also said borough police incorrectly assumed that those fighting outside the house March 1 were invited guests.

At least seven people between the ages of 17 and 23 were arrested. None were students, but police and the university said they were at the party.

The fraternity said a group tried to enter the house without permission “looking for a party to crash,” then refused to leave and made threats, so they called police.
