FOLLANSBEE, W.Va. (AP) – The West Virginia State Police said officers shot and killed a Brooke County man after threatening them with a knife.

Lt. Michael Baylous said a trooper along with local law enforcement officers responded to a 911 call Friday night regarding a man cutting himself with a knife and a female in the background screaming.

When officers arrived at the home in Follansbee and heard a female screaming, they forced their way through the front door.

Officials say 53-year-old Clifton Reintzel charged toward the officers with the knife in a threatening manner. They responded by using their department-issued firearms.

Reintzel was transported to Weirton Medical Center where he later died.
