WAYNESBURG – Central Greene School Board approved a nonsurface oil and gas lease Tuesday with Vantage Energy LLC for 11.5 acres at the site of the former Perry Elementary School.

There will be no above-ground activity, including wells or facilities, related to the lease, according to Central Greene solicitor Kirk King. King said the lease would simply permit Vantage to access oil and gas beneath the property from any adjoining properties where it has well sites.

The school district will receive $5,000 per acre for the primary term of three years in addition to an 18 percent royalty on any extracted oil and gas, according to King. Vantage has a right under the contract to extend it for two, one-year periods.

The board also accepted a recommendation by the Greene County Tax Claim Bureau for a private sale of a parcel of land in Whiteley Township for a bid of $1,000.

District business manager Debbie Crouse said no taxes have been paid on the parcel since 2008.

Under noninstructional staff, the board accepted the resignation of Florence Packrone, a personal care aide at the high school, effective immediately.

It approved the transfer of Vicki McCartney from an after-school security position at the middle school to a vacant after-school security position at the high school, effective March 23. The board named Harold Zupper to fill the vacant day-shift weekend and holiday security position at the high school, effective March 21.

In extracurricular matters, the board hired Corey Dispenza as a lifeguard for the high school pool at an hourly rate of $12.32.

The board accepted the resignations of Dave Sarra, head boys’ basketball coach; and Brad Foringer, head middle school girls’ soccer coach. It approved Shannon Rutan and Chad Coss as volunteer 7th- and 8th-grade softball assistant coaches.

In other matters, Zachary Mason was named to the Central Greene Student Assistance Program Team at the middle school for the 2014-15 school year.
