A Canton Township man was arraigned Thursday on an arrest warrant obtained last month by state police after he allegedly threw a coffee cup that struck his 1-year-old son in the head.

Ronald Joseph Gallo, 28, of 1520 Jefferson Ave., is accused of injuring the boy Feb. 19 at a home in Bentleyville.

Police were called to 105 Oliver Ave. The boy, who was being held by his mother, Amber Lyn Wilkins, had a large bruise on his forehead above his right eye, state police said.

Wilkins told police she got into an argument with Gallo. The argument escalated, and Gallo allegedly picked up a large glass coffee cup from the kitchen and threw it at Wilkins, who was sitting in the living room with the boy.

Police said the boy sustained a baseball-sized bruise that swelled to about two inches. The child was treated at the scene and taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital for further treatment.

Police said Gallo left before they arrived at the home.

Gallo has been in Washington County jail since Monday on a probation warrant.

He was arraigned via video before District Judge Curtis Thompson on charges of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, simple assault, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and harassment. Thompson set bond at $5,000. Gallo is scheduled for a March 31 preliminary hearing on the charges before Thompson.
