In recognition of National Library Week, Flenniken Public Library in Carmichaels will forgive any overdue fines for books and items returned April 13-18. The replacement charges will not be waived for lost or damaged books.

The library also is now offering its Book-a-Librarian program. Anyone who is working on a research paper, updating a résumé, researching family history or wanting to know what book to read next can pair up with a library staff member for assistance. Call the library to schedule an appointment.

Computer classes for beginners at 1 p.m. are offered Mondays. Registration is required and space is limited. A person can participate in one or all sessions.The topics to be discussed include: April 6, basic computer skills; April 13, the Internet; April 20, email; and April 27, Facebook.

At Teen Movie Monday, teens can see movies based on popular young adult novels after school each Monday through May. Popcorn will be served. A full list of showings is available at the library. April’s movies include: April 6, “Perks of Being a Wallflower,” April 13, “The Fault in Our Stars,” April 20, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” and April 27, “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.”

Preschool classes are held at 11 a.m. on Saturdays with activities including stories, songs and crafts. The classes are for ages 3-5 and will run through May 16. To sign up, call the library. The Tuesday class is now full. Toddler Time is at 11 a.m. Fridays with activities including stories, songs and crafts. The classes are for toddlers up to 3 years old and their parents. Classes will run through May 15. Call the library to sign up.

Book Club for adults will discuss “Winter Garden” by Kristin Hannah at 6:30 p.m. April 7. The club meets at 6:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month. Participants can reserve their copy at www.waggin.org. May’s title is “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn.

A drop-in “crafternoon” will take place Thursdays starting at 3 p.m. when students can stop at the library and do crafts with friends. The library provides the supplies.

The book club for students in grades three to five will meet at 5 p.m. on Thursdays in the library to discuss selected books and prepare for the county reading competition on May 12. The books to be discussed are: April 2, “There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom” by Louis Sachar; April 9,”The Boxcar Children No. 1″ by Gertrude Chandler Warner; April 16, “Harry’s Mad” by Dick King-Smith; April 23, “The Castle in the Attic” by Elizabeth Winthrop; April 30, “The One and Only Ivan” by Katherine Applegate.

Family Story Night will be held every Thursday from 6:30 to 7 p.m. through May 14. This interactive celebration of families and literacy is for parents and young children. Call the library to sign up.

A special seminar will be held at 6 p.m. April 8 on the Revolutionary War. Greene County Historical Museum’s Eben Williams, a war re-enactor and history buff, will present the program. The same seminar also will be offered at 3 p.m. that day at The Arbors.

A Teen Game Night will be held at 3 p.m. April 10, at the library. All teens are invited to play board games, Wii, cards, role-playing games and more.

A Thirty One Bingo Party will be held at the library at 3 p.m. April 11. The cost is $10 to play five games and a chance to win a Thirty One shopping spree. Players can increase their chances to win by donating gardening items and tools, new or used, to the library. Starting this spring, library card holders will be able to borrow these tools, just like a book, to do work in their home or in our community garden.

Free online Gale Courses are offered. The six-week online classes begin April 15, and will cover topics such as accounting, grant writing, computer skills and web design.

A home health care preventative maintenance for pets program will be held at 2 p.m. April 18. Speakers from Catnip Acres and Woodlands Animal Care Center will provide tips on keeping pets healthy and answer any questions. The program is hosted by Teddy Bear Cares organization and was rescheduled from Feb. 21.
